While the web has rendered time and distance moot, the language barrier is still standing. The language barrier can be overcome through a "best effort" technique that combines inputs from professional translators, volunteers (user community), and machine generated translations. I recently wrote about this in my essay, The End of the Language Barrier. In this article, I'll describe how to build a translation proxy server (if you'd like to be a beta tester, let me know).
